Note from Patricia: **Please check with your specific airline for carry-on compatibility** - Some airlines are more flexible than what is posted online for their carry-on size limits but you could be asked to check your bag if it is larger than what they officially allow and doesn't fit in the overhead compartment. You will need to figure out how comfortable you are with that risk.

For example, for one of the dimensions, the bag is bigger than what Southwest officially allows by 1 inch but I have taken it on several Southwest flights.  I was comfortable taking the risk on the Southwest flights but I would not recommend it for budget airlines like Spirit or Frontier which often require you to put your bags in sizer before allowing you to board and will charge you for a checked bag.
